About US:

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is a Provident Fund mandated to provide social security to its members as prescribed by law under CAP 222 (Laws of Uganda) through efficient management of members’ contributions. The NSSF asset base is currently over Ugx. 9.8  trillion, making the Fund one of the largest players in Uganda’s economy.

Job Summary: The Financial Accountant will be responsible for processing financial transactions plus reconciling accounts ledgers in line with the Finance Procedures Manual.

Facilitating data driven decision making

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure all transactions are accurately captured in JDE.
• Timely processing and payment of transactions.
• Monitor, reconcile and report any discrepancies on the general ledger accounts.
• Reconcile and generate listings tying to the general ledger for all accounts.
• Perform daily, month-end and year-end close processes.
• Prepare end of period adjustments.
• Understanding all financial and accounting regulations; keeping up to date with changes and ensuring adherence.
• Analyze business operation costs, revenues, and trends to develop projections for future revenue and expenses and make recommendations for improvements.
• Provide analysis of trends and forecasts and recommend actions for optimization.
• Increase productivity by developing automated reporting/forecasting tools.
• Identify and drive process improvements, including the creation of standard reports and tools.
• Monitoring of account ledger entries to ensure they affect correct Budget lines.
• Perform bank agency roles.
• Responds to financial inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders. Be a key point of contact for other departments on financial and accounting matters.
• Supporting the Finance Manager with projects and tasks when required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

• The applicant for the NSSF Financial Accountant job should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business courses like BCOM, BBA, BSTAT etc.
• A professional finance qualification e.g. ACCA, CPA.
• Three years of work experience in a busy Financial Institution.
• Innovative
• Data analytical skills
• Intuition and decision making skills
• Time management skills
• The job holder must be of high integrity and with customer service skills
• Excellent Communication and interpersonal skills
• Creative and Innovative
• Computer literate in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, spread sheet
• Planning and organising skills
• Ability to prioritize competing tasks/activities
• Ability to work with a team
